Founded in 1963, CVS is the largest pharmacy chain in the U.S. with over 7,400 stores. Not just a pharmacy, they also sell a wide variety of grocery and general merchandise, including health and beauty products, seasonal goods, photo finishing services and much more. Many locations provide healthcare services through CVS Minute Clinics located in-store. CVS is known for great savings through their CVS Rewards Program, but there are also so many other ways to to get a great deal – and GCN has all the best coupons and tips to have you saving money fast!
There are so many ways to save at CVS it could make your head spin! But if you know all the ways to save, you can get fabulous deals (including FREE products), and we have all the best tips right here in one spot!
Apply for a CVS ExtraCare Card - First thing you need to do is get yourself a CVS ExtraCare card, it’s how you get all the best deals at CVS! Apply for free in-store or online by visiting the CVS website. You’ll give your ExtraCare card to the cashier each time you make a purchase at CVS and it will allow you to take advantage of sale prices and ExtraBucks deals! Your ExtraCare card will also allow you to earn 2% back on all your purchases made at CVS and CVS.com in the form of a ExtraBuck Reward that you’ll receive quarterly. You can also use it to print up coupons from the ExtraCare Coupon Center, more info. on that below!
Earn and Redeem ExtraBucks - The CVS ExtraCare program pays you back in “ExtraBucks” or “ECB’s” when you make a qualifying purchase. Your ExtraBucks will print at the end of your receipt, they have expiration dates (4 weeks) and they do exclude some items such as tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets, etc. You can also use manufacturer coupons and CVS store coupons and still earn ExtraBucks, which can result in cheap, free or moneymaker products! Here’s some tips about using earning and redeeming ExtraBucks at CVS:
ExtraBucks are not considered coupons, so you do not need to worry about how many you are using in one transaction.
You can pay with ExtraBucks and still receive ExtraBucks back if you purchase qualifying items.
You can use ExtraBucks you earned to buy another one of the same deal and earn another identical ExtraBucks – as long as the limit for that offer is more than one.
You will not receive cash back if you do not spend your entire ExtraBucks, and the ExtraBucks can be reduced down if you wish. For example, if your before tax total comes to $1.95 and your ExtraBucks is for $2.00, the cashier can adjust your ExtraBucks down to $1.95 as long as you don’t mind losing the 5¢.
You cannot use ExtraBucks to pay tax on a transaction.
You cannot use ExtraBucks to pay for prescriptions, alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards and tobacco products.
ExtraBucks are only a great savings if you actually use them! Write it on your calendar, put a reminder on your phone, stick a post it note in your wallet – whatever it takes to make sure you use it before it expires. Remember, if it expires, it’s like throwing your money into the trash can!
To trigger ExtraBucks on a “spend” promotion, such as “Spend $20 on select Crest products, Get $5 ExtraBucks”, you only need to reach 98% of the required spend amount.
Use Coupons! CVS has SO many couponing opportunities, just take a look!
Manufacturer Coupons – CVS accepts printable manufacturer coupons like the ones you can print right here at Grocery Coupon Network or manufacturers coupons from your Sunday paper, product packaging, flyers – just about anywhere you can find them! The CVS coupon policy states that they do not allow overage (although I have received overage because the cashier did not reduce the value of the coupon).
Store Coupons – CVS has store coupons and you can get them through CVS emails, find them at the end of your receipt (often referred to as CRT or cash register tape coupons) or print them in-store at the Coupon Center (more on the Coupon Center in just a bit) . Apply online to subscribe to their emails or change your preferences.
ExtraCare Coupon Center – The ExtraCare Coupon Center is located inside your CVS store and looks like a price checker, which it is….but it’s also a great source for CVS store coupons! Just scan your ExtraCare Card and your coupons will print. Not everyone gets the same store coupons, and you can continue scanning your card and receiving coupons until the screen states “no more coupons for today, check back tomorrow”. These CVS store coupons can be for specific items, like $.50/1 Chex cereal, or for a $ amount off a category, such as $2/1 Any Hand & Body Lotion purchase of $5 or more, or they could be for a percentage or dollar amount off your total. One thing I’ve learned is that no matter what your reason for walking into CVS, always scan your ExtraCare card, you never know what you’ll be rewarded with! Here are some tips about using coupons at CVS:
CVS store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. The CVS coupon policy allows for the use of (1) CVS store coupon and (1) manufacturer coupon per item.
Many CVS store coupons that are emailed to you are linked to your specific CVS ExtraCare and cannot be redeemed without the CVS card that generated them.
You can use a B1G1 Free coupon on a B1G1 Free sale
When using multiple types of coupons and discounts, hand your coupons over in this order – dollar off coupons, such as $4 off $10 purchase first, manufacturer and store coupons next, and ExtraBucks last. This will maximize your savings.
Use the CVS Weekly Ad Coupon Match Up’s from GCN! Every week we match up the best sales at CVS with manufacturer coupons, store coupons and ExtraBucks deals to save you time and money!
Join the CVS Beauty Club- Ready for another great way to save at CVS? Join the CVS Beauty Club for free with your ExtraBucks card and enjoy the following perks:
10% off beauty Shopping pass after enrollment
$5 ExtraBucks Rewards for every $50 spent on qualifying beauty purchases
$3 ExtraBucks rewards on your birthday
Exclusive emails with coupons, tips and new product info
Rain Checks – CVS has a really fantastic rain check policy, and it applies to sale prices as well as ExtraBucks deals! If CVS is out of a particular item, simply let your cashier know and they will write you out a rain check. If you are requesting a rain check on a ExtraBucks deal, the cashier will note it on the rain check. When you redeem your rain check, the cashier will force print that ExtraBuck. You can “coupon as usual” when using a rain check and rain checks at CVS do not have expiration dates!
