Peapod is an online grocery store that delivers right to your home. Founded in Skokie, IL in 1989 by Thomas and Andrew Parkinson, it was one of the earliest internet start-up companies and adopters of online services for customers. Between 1989 and 1996, Peapod provided an online grocery shopping service in partnership with Jewel. By 1996, it launched its own website and expanded to other states in the US. By 2001, Royal Ahold bought the company and Peapod distributed only food from Stop and Shop and Giant Food. The website has everyday sales in their Specials tab that lists thousands of products on sale each week, and accepts manufacturer coupons. Prices of products are comparable to your local area on produce, deli, meats, seafood, health and beauty, and more.
