You are able to fill out an application to receive SNAP benefits online here.
This form will give you more details about the program, along with the form you will need to fill out and where to find your local offices. You can also find out more information about the program on the Health and Welfare Idaho government site.
An interview will be set up between you and a local SNAP representative to go over your details. You will need to bring paperwork confirming your identity (such as driver's license and/or passport), proof of residency (renter's agreement or mortgage paperwork) and income (pay stubs). You will also need to bring any other paperwork pertaining to expenses- child support papers, utilities, etc. You will also need to bring your social security card.
The interview will be an in person encounter, unless you have a legitimate reason why you cannot perform an in office interview. If you cannot, a phone interview can be arranged.
Once you are accepted into the program, you should receive your SNAP benefits within 30 days from when you first apply for SNAP. Once your application is received, if it is seen that you need immediate assistance, you could receive benefits much sooner through emergency funds.
Your monthly benefits will be placed on a debit card, also known as an EBT card. In the state of Idaho, this is referred to as the Idaho Quest Card. You can use this debit card at any store that accepts SNAP. You can only use the funds on food products sanctioned by the program and also plants and seeds that you can grow in your own home to grow foods. You are not able to buy household items, alcohol, cigarettes, magazines and pet foods with the debit card.
