SNAP stands for the Supplemental Assistance Program- it was formerly called the Food Stamp Program. This program was created to help low income families to purchase nutritional meals for themselves and their families. SNAP is the widest, largest program in the US to fight off unnecessary hunger. The food stamp program was originally brought about in 1974 when Congress made it law that all states offer assistance to families in need.
The purpose of the Supplemental Assistance Program is to end hunger within the US and to provide families with nutritional food. In the state of South Carolina there are over 100,000 families that benefit from this wonderful program. When used properly, children are given healthier foods which helps them to do much better in school. Adults are healthier and happier as well, allowing them to perform much better at their jobs and within society.
