Coupon Tip: Acquiring Extra Newspapers
The majority of coupons I use come from the inserts in the Sunday paper and online coupons. For the coupon inserts, I am always looking for ways to pick up extras without spending a lot more!
Here are some tips for acquiring extra newspapers:
- Get a less expensive edition of the paper. In Chicago we have multiple papers and they mostly have the same inserts in the Sunday edition. So, I get whichever one is cheaper to get the most coupons for money. Right now, I have a daily deal site purchase that I used to get a 1 year subscription to the Chicago Tribune (Sunday Only) for $13 for the whole year- that’s 25 cents per paper! Be on the lookout for deals like these to save you money. A friend of mine in Ohio purchases the Saturday paper for her area because it has the same inserts and costs 50% less than the Sunday edition. Figure out ways to get a less expensive paper in your area!
- Ask local businesses if you can have any copies that are leftover on Monday. Most papers are just thrown out and so many businesses are happy to give them to you rather than pitching them. I always go to Starbucks and usually get at least two extra sets of inserts for FREE!
- Trade with a friend. My neighbors never use their coupons so I ask for their insert packet and they gladly give them to me as opposed to throwing them out. In exchange, I often ask if they have any coupons they want me to be on the lookout for and I’ll clip them if I come across them. Non-couponers often like coupons but don’t want to spend the time finding what they use so this is a great trade.
