When you're starting out on your first coupon adventures, it's important to know some specific words and abbreviations. Couponing and savings blogs can get very confusing if you aren't prepared for the lingo.
These abbreviations stand for Proctor & Gamble, Smart Source, and Red Plum. Each of these is a company that distributes Sunday inserts in your local paper, and you'll see them referenced in blog posts often.
These are several examples of Buy One, Get One. BOGO deals involve discounts you receive on a second item by purchasing the first. This means you get the second item for free or for a reduced price. Sometimes a purchase of two items is required, so pay attention to the terms of the offer.
ECBs are Extra Care Bucks, and are the name given to a reward system used at CVS stores.
EP stands for everyday price. This is the non-sale price of the item in question.
This is the expiration date of a coupon or promotion.
GC stands for gift card or gift certificate, depending on which the company involved prefers to use.
MIRs are mail-in rebates, which need to be sent in after purchase in order to get money back for a purchase.
No longer available promotions or offers may be sited in blog posts as references to current or upcoming offers.
ONYO, or on your next order, promotions offer you discounts on subsequent purchases by buying a specific item or items.
Out of pocket refers to the money you need to spend before you earn money back from rewards programs like those at Walgreen's or CVS.
The Register Rewards program is the name Walgreen's has given is system of offering money back on future purchases when qualifying purchases are made.
Coupon stacking is the method of using a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item.
WYB is short for the phrase "when you buy." You will see it in blog posts referring to reward programs. For example: "receive $2 in RR WYB 2 participating items."
Now you'll be better prepared. Less time scratching your head equals more time clipping and saving.
