Netflix started in 1997 by offering flat-fee unlimited movie rentals. They made a name for themselves by what they didn't have: no due dates, late fees, shipping and handling fees, or per title rental fees. In 2007 Netflix began to offer Video Streaming in addition to their monthly rentals. The Video Streaming allows Netflix members to watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on nearly any Internet-connected screen. For a low monthly rate, members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments. Netflix is the world's leading Internet television network with over 48 million members in more than 40 countries. Netflix provides more than one billion hours of TV shows and movies per month, including original series.
Founded in 1997, Netflix provides on-demand Internet streaming of movies and TV programs, along with a flat rate DVD-by-mail service. It started out as a subscription-based DVD distribution service, and offered a collection of 100,000 titles on DVD by 2009, with over 10 million subscribers. In 2007, Netflix delivered its billionth DVD, but started to move away from its core business model of mailing DVDs and instead introduced video on demand via the Internet. Netflix also produces original online only web television, including the award-winning House of Cards, Arrested Development, Hemlock Grove, and Orange is the New Black.
Save on Netflix
If you’re a TV and/or movie lover, you’re probably familiar with Netflix. Although Netflix is a subscription service that you pay for, it can still be an affordable way to watch the tv programs and movies. Let’s take a look at how to get a deal on Netflix service, and how to save money on movie and TV entertainment for your family.
To get the best deal, use online coupons and coupon codes when you subscribe to Netflix. Find the latest coupon offerings here at GCN.
Take Advantage of the FREE Trial Offer
To get your 1 month free offer, subscribe to Netflix, and your free month will start when you click on “Start Membership” during the registration process. If you choose not to continue your service, simply cancel anytime during your 1 month free membership, and you will not be charged. If you like it, do nothing – your subscription will continue and you’ll start being charged the next month.
Once you start using your Netflix account, take advantage of all it has to offer. One great feature the ability to rate movies and TV shows that you’ve watched. Netflix will begin to customize your home screen based on your likes and dislikes, and will start suggesting movies that you may like. Although I didn’t like the sound of that at first, it really does work, and I’ve watched several films and TV shows based on what Netflix recommended for me – and I enjoyed them! Give it a try, it can help you explore all the titles that Netflix has to offer.
Use Netflix instead of RedBox
Don’t get me wrong, RedBox is great, and I’ve certainly used it quite a bit. After all, $1 for a new release rental is a great price. But if you’re anything like me, at least 50% of the time, you return the movie late – and incur late charges. These late charges add up, and pretty soon, your dollar rental has really gone up in price! I have this same problem with movie rentals from my local library. I always have the best intentions of turning everything in one time, and more often than not, I pay late fees. By avoiding RedBox and library rentals and using Netflix instead, I save on return fees, which for me, adds up to big savings.
