Save Money at Walgreens

Walgreens is a national drug-store chain that can be found in most cities and is based out of Deerfield, Illinois. They carry everything from milk to diapers to batteries. You can find great deals and lots of freebies each week when you stack coupons and pair them with great sales and in-store offers. The Register Reward and Balance Reward Programs are great ways to save even more in this diverse store.

How to Save at Walgreens

  • Register Rewards are coupons that you receive at the end of your transaction, when you buy specifically indication items, that can be used OYNO at Walgreens. These are indicated in the weekly ad or you may find some unadvertised Register Rewards in the store. Register rewards print out like catalina coupons and can be used on your next shopping trip. This is a great incentive program but you have to stay on top of it because they have an expiration date and count as a manufacturer’s coupon. Remember, you can only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item purchased so take this into consideration when making your purchase.
  • Balance Rewards Points - This is a new program from Walgreens where you earn points for purchases and then the points can translate to money off once you reach a certain amount. Points are advertised in the weekly ad and also in-store. Once you reach 5,000, you can start using them towards your shopping purchases. 5,000 points translates to a $5 savings. You can also earn these for prescriptions and other promotions throughout the store. Occasionally there is an offer for bonus points with a special purchase, these are advertised on Facebook or the Walgreens website. We always share these great opportunities when they are available. Register Rewards usually have a limit of 1 so you couldn’t purchase the same product you bought to get the register reward and get another one. You can alternate other products in the store and use the RRs as you buy another item that offers a reward.
  • Friends & Family Coupons – These occur at irregular intervals and are an additional savings on top of sale prices and coupons. Whenever these coupons are available, you’ll save an extra percentage off your ENTIRE purchase! Follow GCN to see when this coupon is available.
  • Senior Discount Day - This happens about once a month and is an additional discount for anyone who has an AARP card and a Balance Rewards account. These are both free to sign up for and both have a lot of perks! We’ll post this special savings opportunity whenever it is available.
  • Stacking Coupons – Walgreens offers a monthly coupon book called an IVC booklet. IVC stands for Instant Value Coupon. These booklets contain store coupons and mail-in-rebates for different items throughout the store and this comes out once a month. You can stack these coupons with sales and manufacturer’s coupons for big savings. There is a great list in the front of each book detailing what brands have coupons in the booklet and where to find them.
  • In Store Savings Books – These are random but they pop-up occasionally and can have some great coupons. Sometimes they have manufacturer’s coupons, sometimes they have store coupons, so check them out and use them accordingly. I always look for these around the beauty counter and the pharmacy.
  • Walgreens Mobile Coupons – You’ll need to download the app to get them but it’s easy and quick. You can find the app on the Walgreens mobile home page. They don’t come too often so it’s a good one to have.
  • Clearance – Walgreens will have seasonal clearance and a regular clearance on endcaps, usually at the back of the store. Check these areas or look for orange tags throughout the store for great deals. You can find some super prices on stuff like diapers, clearance hair care or more fantastic deals.
  • In-Ad coupons- Each week in the circular, you will find in-ad store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons. There is usually a specified limit on how many of that item you can purchase so make sure to read the fine print. You will have to show this coupon at the register to get this sale price so make sure you either clip it before you go or grab an ad they can scan when you check-out.
