Using Coupons at the “Self Checkout” was a breeze!

How to Use Coupons in the “Self Checkout” Lanes at Walmart!

Yesterday was a coupon first for me! I used coupons at a self checkout lane at Walmart!  This is something I have been wondering about for a long time and have not been brave enough to try.

I had my husband and children along with me and decided to try.  It was the 4th of July and the store was extremely busy!

Keep in mind that I only had about 7 coupons to use and there was a line of people behind us-even in the self check out lanes!

Just to be sure that this was okay, I checked with the employee monitoring the self check out lanes before we started.

She happily told us that we could use coupons in the self check out lanes.  She did not explain how or what to do, and we decided to wing it.  After all, it could not be that hard, right?

For this shopping trip, I used both insert coupons, and printable coupons!

Here’s what we did.
1.  We went through and scanned all of our items first and bagged them.
2.  Next, we clicked on “select payment type” and found the “coupon” icon.
3.  Once we pushed the “coupon” icon, we were directed to scan the coupons.

The “coupon” icon is on this page

Sounds simple and easy, right.  Well, it was.  A word of caution though.  One of our coupons scanned but it said, “item did not match.”  This was a $0.50 off for an “All You” Magazine.  Of course, this was our first coupon we tried to use!

I quickly motioned for the employee monitoring to come our way.  She checked our bags for the magazine and entered a code, and it worked!  Whew!  The rest of our coupons worked without a problem, and we were on our way!

You might wonder where to put the coupons after you scan them.  There is a small slot labeled, “coupons” that you insert the coupons in after they are scanned.

You might need to fold your coupons or make sure they are nicely clipped to make sure they fit in the slot.  It was located all the way to the right, next to where the receipt prints!

Overall, this was a great experience and I will be going this route again.

Happy Couponing!
